Twinkling lights, sparkling ornaments and a field of red and green can be seen throughout downtown Brewton as merchants gear up for a special Christmas Downtown celebration set for Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Along with special promotions presented by area merchants, shoppers will have an opportunity to be entertained and even get a bite to eat during the four-hour event.
Other events planned for the boardwalk area include the First Baptist Church Children's Choir, Ann Peavy's dancers, and the T.R. Miller majorettes, Milligan said.
Other groups are scheduled to perform throughout the area as well. Performances planned at The Hourglass include Rowell's Bluegrass Band at 6 p.m. and Miss Becki from the Brewton Public Library will be dressed as Mrs. Claus as she reads Christmas stories for children at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot area of the business.
Santa will also be making an appearance at The Hourglass from 6 to 8 p.m. Individuals are invited to bring their cameras for an opportunity to have photos taken with Santa. Photographers will also be on hand for those who don't bring their own camera.
The Brewton Elementary School's Orff Ensemble will be performing in front of Changing Seasons in downtown Brewton beginning at 5:30 p.m.
A multitude of food will be available throughout the area during the evening as well, Milligan said. “Gumbo on the Boardwalk will be available from George's Barbecue,” Milligan said. “Amedisys will offer popcorn and hot chocolate on the boardwalk as well.”
Habitat for Humanity volunteers will be on hand at The Hourglass with chili for sale to benefit their charity and ribs will also be available at the same location.
With less than a week to go, plans are still being made for additional entertainment and offerings from merchants in the downtown area.
