The T.R. Miller B team picked up their first win of the season Friday night as they defeated Northview 41-31 in the season opener for the Tigers.
Terez Lane was the leading scorer for the Tigers as he finished with 14.
T.R. Miller rushed out to a 8-3 lead with 2:33 left in the opening quarter and then held a 10-5 lead with 8.8 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Northview added a late basket to cut the Tiger lead to 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
After scoring 10 points in the first quarter, Miller only connected for two points in the second as Northview put a 10 spot on the Tigers and rushed out to a 17-12 lead at the half.
The Tigers picked it up in the third quarter as they scored 17 points in the third led by Lane's 8 points.
After being down 17-12, Miller tied the game at 17-17 with 4:45 left in the third and then went ahead 26-19 with 2:11 left in the quarter.
Miller held a 29-22 lead with 1:28 left in the third, but Northview was able to cut the lead to 29-25 at the end of the third.
Northview cut the Tiger lead to 31-28 early in the fourth but that would be as close as they would come as T.R. Miller went ahead 35-28 as Deontae Powell scored for the Tigers with 3:27 left in the game.
Jaren Jackson would put the Tigers up 37-30 and a Lane steal with 1:30 left put the Tigers up 39-31 as Miller went on for the win 41-31.
The Tigers will be back in action Friday, Dec. 7 when they travel to UMS-Wright for a 4:30 tip.
