Volunteers disguised as Santa's Helpers made sure more than 500 local residents, including children and 100 senior citizens received gifts this year through the Brewton Christmas Project.
The number of people involved in the project volunteered countless hours to make the event a success and we applaud them for their dedication.
Judy Crane and Michelle Jones of the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce worked many hours to organize names of recipients and logistics for the project.
Stephanie Walker, chairman of the project, served as coordinator to make sure that each child received gifts. Her efforts to organize the project from distribution of names to distribution of gifts is to be commended.
Other volunteers took the time from their holiday schedules to make sure each gift was bought and packaged for individual children. Their hours of work certainly deserve being noted.
Members of the Sportsmans Club, the Kiwanis organization and countless volunteers from area high schools and Jefferson Davis Community College rose in the early hours of a couple of Saturdays to make sure more than 150 children were assisted in their holiday shopping experience.
Hundreds of benevolent individuals took their time to pick up a name, do the shopping and spend the money to insure gifts appeared for the children.
For those volunteers who worked to organize, shop, separate gifts and distribute them to an array of recipients, we offer our applause.
