Escambia County Sheriff's deputies chased a suspect on foot down Belleville Avenue Thursday afternoon after the Brewton juvenile allegedly threw drugs over a fence surrounding the Escambia County jail.
Sheriff's officials said the 17-year-old threw a bag containing marijuana into the recreation yard at the jail and took off on foot. Following a three-block chase, the juvenile was apprehended before he could enter a waiting vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested in connection with the incident, officials said. Brittany Amber Deslonde, 21, of Brewton, was arrested and charged with having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, criminal trespassing, promoting prison contraband and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The juvenile has been charged with criminal trespassing and promoting prison contraband. Deslonde is awaiting a bond hearing and is being held at the Escambia County Detention Center. The juvenile has been turned over to the Juvenile Corrections department in Escambia County.
Criminal trespassing and promoting prison contraband are felony charges. For more information, see Sunday's edition of The Brewton Standard.
