Brewton area residents couldn't ask for a nicer man to have in love with them. And Dan Shaddock is in love with Brewton.
Dan Shaddock's retirement from the Brewton Area YMCA has been announced and a reception has been planned to honor is work at the local facility.
Having spent the last five and a half years working to make the Brewton facility one of the nicest in the region, Shaddock has embedded himself in the hearts of many throughout the communities the Y serves.
His tireless efforts to make services and programs available to as many people as possible have not gone unnoticed.
Many times, Mr. Dan, as he has been lovingly referred to by many, has been seen playing any number of games with the children who visited once or daily at the Y.
Children and the community have been Shaddock's focus while he has served in his position at the local facility.
He has said the staff of the Brewton Area YMCA has always worked as a team in any efforts undertaken at the facility. Shaddock was a prime example, taking the broom or mop in hand many times throughout his time there.
We applaud the YMCA board members for choosing Shaddock for the position nearly six years ago. Their choice was a great fit for the community and has been an obvious pleasure for Shaddock.
His departure from the Brewton area will leave a void that will be hard to fill.
Our best wishes go with Shaddock as he returns home to Texas where his wife, children and grandchildren have plenty of plans for the future.
Good luck, Dan. You will be missed.
