Brothers on an early morning drive through Brewton Friday have been charged with possession of drugs after officers said they found a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray of the car - and cash and even more marijuana on further inspection.
Both men were arrested by Brewton police officers during a routine traffic stop on Mildred Street.
Timonty Lashon Atcher, 20, and Terrell Lavon Brooks, 18, both of 1302 Sowell Road in Brewton, were arrested when officers found a marijuana joint in the ashtray of their vehicle. Both men have been charged with possession of marijuana, first degree which is a Class C felony.
The arrest was initiated by Brewton police officers Brock Holt, Matt Jernigan and David Mathis.
Commander Keith Hutchins with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force Unit said his department was called after the police officers made the discovery.
Officers recovered 28 small bags of marijuana and more than $2,400 in cash upon inspection of the vehicle, Hutchins said.
The vehicle inspection checkpoint is a routine detail coordinated with the Brewton Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff's Department and the Alabama State Troopers Department, Hutchins said.
Atcher and Brooks were booked at the Escambia County Detention Center where they remained as of Friday.
