The floats will be rolling and the bands will marching as the Brewton Precinct of the Alabama Democratic Convention's third annual Martin Luther King Day parade gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Brewton.
The good times will begin to roll from behind BankTrust of Brewton as the parade crosses Belleville Avenue onto Henderson Street, Watson said. The parade will then turn left onto U.S. 31/St. Joseph Avenue to Sowell Road. The parade will continue down Sowell Road to MLK Drive to Sportsman Park.
Participating bands include B.C. Rain High School from Mobile, Camden High School, T.R. Miller High School, W.S. Neal High School and Hillcrest High School from Evergreen. Homecoming courts from T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal high schools will also be participating in the parade, Watson said.
Area churches have put together floats that will be one of the highlights of the parade, Watson said.
Once the parade makes its way to the Sportsman's Park, entertainment and food and fun will be plentiful, Watson said.
Refreshments will be available in the park following the parade, Watson said.
The parade won't be the only event to memorialize Dr. Martin Luther King, Watson said.
The Sunday afternoon event will include other speakers including the reading of poetry as well as musical presentations.
