Donors in the Brewton and East Brewton community stepped up to the plate again this year to give to United Fund.
The umbrella fund-raising organization for 16 member agencies quickly met and exceeded its $90,000 goal for the second year in a row, and the generosity of local residents is the reason for the success, along with the hard work of committee volunteers.
We are blessed to live and work in a community that cares so much for all of its residents. United Fund agencies touch just about every aspect of our community - from youth who play sports to seniors who need meals. Families and individuals, young and old benefit from the services of United Fund agencies. You never know when someone will be in need, and there is always a United Fund agency to step in and help.
This year, United Fund welcomed two new agencies - Wheels of Wellness and the Community Character Project. Wheels of Wellness helps take children to needed doctors' appointments, and the Community Character Project which brings experiential character lessons to students throughout the Brewton area.
United Fund gives more than 99 cents of every dollar it receives to local agencies - that means our donated money stays right here in the community, to help those in need.
In coming weeks the United Fund will be distributing its money to local agencies, so we will continue to see them serve the community in a variety of ways.
Kudos to the United Fund committee volunteers who helped raise the money - and kudos to a community that cares.
