Jefferson David Community College's Student Government Association will celebrate Black History Month with a book signing and guest speaker.
The theme of the event is “Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism.”
The Rev. H.K. Matthews, a Brewton resident who was heavily involved in the civil rights movement in his native northwest Florida, will sign copies of his book “Victory After the Fall” from 10:45 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 at the JDCC Student Center.
On Feb. 25, Wanda Johnson, authority of “The Serendipitous Power of Storytelling” and a part of the Alabama Humanities Foundation Road Scholars Program, will speak in the Neal Center Auditorium from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Using the craft of storytelling, Johnson will “untie the ribbons of child's play and entertainment, which are often wrapped around this traditional art form,” an SGA spokesman said.
Johnson is a nationally recognized storyteller.
