Mr. Walton Russell “Buddy” Sherrer, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at William F. Green State Veterans Home after an extended illness. He was a World War II veteran, a member of Brewton First Baptist Church and the owner/operator of Sherrer Machine Works. He retired in 1999 and enjoyed fishing in Lake Barry which he named for his oldest son. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Willie Mae Sherrer; a brother, Otis; and two sons, Barry and Tim.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eloise K. Sherrer; a son, Gordon Sherrer; two daughters, Chris Grammer of Milton, Fla., and Marsha (Randy) Rouse of Magnolia, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Sherrer; five grandchildren, Sherrer and Phillip Grammer, Christy (Bill) Bridges, Michael (Adrienne) Sherrer and Natalie Sherrer; and three sisters, Velma Wright, Voncile (Cecil) Lock and Willen (Tom) Watson.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jack Fitts and the Rev. John Finklea officiating and Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Phillip Grammer, Michael Sherrer, Bill Bridges, Gary Broussard, Nicholas Broussard and Blake Gonthier. Honoary pallbearers were Leroy Chappelle, Bill Watson, Tom Watson, Carol Nall, Jim Nordmeyer, Bobby Bardwell, Bruce Long, Mack Smith, W. J. Holmes, Dr. Bob Hayes, Wilburn Perry, Luther Gillis, and Keith Gonthier.
