Mr. Harold Lee Quimby, 82, of Flomaton, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at a Jay hospital. He was a native of Goodway, but had resided in Flomaton for 50 years coming from Mobile. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the battle for Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan. He was a teacher for many years, working through Jefferson Davis Community College with the Basic Adult Education Program. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laroy and Agnes Garrett Quimby; his sister, Sarah Findley and his brother, Roy Gene Quimby.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Luverne Mize Quimby; two daughters, Jennifer (David) Barber of Franklin, Tenn. and June (Dave) Peebles of Madison; a son, Robert E. Dean of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jaime Barber of Bowling Green, Ken., Heather Peebles of Madison, Jonathan (Isabella) Peebles of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Jerry Keese officiating. Burial followed at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
