The W.S. Neal High School tennis team played its first match of the season on new blue and green courts in East Brewton Monday.
The City of East Brewton received a grant for the courts, which were completed last year.
Monday's matches against Andalusia were close for the team, which is back after at least a year's absence at Neal, but Maggie Crutchfield won the Eagles' only match.
Jordan said he expects more practice and more matches throughout the season will help the team improve.
The tennis courts are located in R.T. Johnson Park, which is just past W.S. Neal Middle School on Williamson Street. Mayor Terry Clark said the courts are open to the public.
Lights at the court are automatic, coming on at dark and turning off at 10 p.m. “I hope that the people who use the courts will take care of it and have some pride about it,” Clark said. “This is something great for East Brewton and something we can be proud of.”
Clark said there will be no skating or skateboards allowed in the court area.
Neal's next match is at home March 11 against Opp.
