In a prelude to their varsity counterparts' doubleheader at T.R. Miller on Friday, the W.S. Neal Eagles and T.R. Miller Tiger JV teams faced off on Thursday in East Brewton in a twinbill of their own.
T.R. Miller took game one 5-2, and W.S. Neal took game two 9-5.
The Eagles will be back in action Monday when they travel to Monroe County for a 4 p.m. game.
The Tigers will be back in action Monday when they take on Flomaton at home. Both games are set for 4 p.m.
Both teams will be back in action against each other Wednesday at T.R. Miller at 3:30 p.m. This game is a rescheduled game from an earlier game in the season at T.R. Miller.
Game one: T.R. Miller 5, W.S. Neal 2
In game one for the rival JV teams, it looked as if it would be a pitchers' duel between T.R. Miller's Joseph Strength and W.S. Neal's Hayden Cooper.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the third when the Tigers stuck first and then W.S. Neal tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. From there, T.R. Miller scored four runs over the final three innings, and the Eagles scored one in the sixth as T.R. Miller took the game 5-2.
Strength got the win, going seven innings and allowing five hits while striking out seven. Cooper allowed 10 hits and struck out six in the loss.
Wil Riggs led the Tigers with a 3-for-3 showing, going with a single, double and a triple.
Devlin Crosby was 1-for-4 with a RBI, and Dylan Bell was 1-for-1 with a RBI also.
Ryland Dixon was 1-for-3 with a double, and Harrison Horton was 1-for-3 with a triple.
For the Eagles, Jeremy Myers was 2-for-3 with two singles, and Tyler Sawyer was 1-for-3 with a single. Cooper was 1-for-3 with a single, and Gary McGraw was 1-for-2 with a single.
Game two: W.S. Neal 9, T.R. Miller 5
In game two, the Eagles evened things up with a 9-5 win over the Tigers.
McGraw picked up the win, going the complete game and allowing four hits, three walks and striking out 11.
Ryland Dixon earned the loss for the Tigers, going three innings and allowing seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Dylan Smith came in relief and went three innings with one hit, five strikeouts and three walks.
Reid Johnson led the Eagles offensively, going 3-for-3 with one RBI. Sawyer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Keith Bradley was 1-for-3 with one RBI, Myers was 1-for-3 with one RBIS, Logan Williamson was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Brian Sims was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Bell led the Tigers with two RBIs and a 1-for-4 showing. Dixon was 1-for-2, and Smith was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Parker Reiss was 1-for-3, and Christian Lodge was 1-for-1.
In the first inning, the Tigers struck for one run in the top of the first, and the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead.
T.R. Miller struck for two in the second inning to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Eagles scored two in the second inning to take a 6-3 lead.
The Eagles added three in the third to take a 9-3 lead. The Tigers added one in the fifth and one in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-5.
