Mr. James P. McRae, 86, of Zion Hill Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at a local hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Semmes, and a former resident of Lenox, before moving to Brewton 55 years ago. He owned and operated McRae's Barber Shop for more than 50 years and was a graduate of Larkin's Business College. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Hartwood Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillie Mae Ryals McRae of Brewton; three sons, James Patrick (Marie) McRae, Jerald (Debbie) McRae, and Jerry (Margaret) McRae, all of Brewton, five daughters, Judith (Donnie) Hammac, Janice (Tom) Craft, both of Brewton, Pam Howell and Dorothy (Glenn) Wardrop, both of Atmore, and Julia (Wayne) Thompson of Castleberry; a brother, Raymond (Virginia) McRae of Saraland; a sister, Delores (Jack) Harrison of Semmes; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Bobby Boatwright officiating. Burial followed at Hartwood Methodist Church cemetery in Range with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
