Tigers beat Eagles

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers softball team evened their record up at 8-8 with a 3-2 win over Escambia County and a 17-2 win over the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles Thursday at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park.

In a softball game featuring both local schools, the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team defeated the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team 17-2 Thursday afternoon at the Brewton Area YMCA Sports Park.
The Lady Tigers pounded out 12 hits in the game against only two hits by the Eagles jumping out to an early 6-0 lead and a 14-1 lead before scoring three runs in the final two innings to the Lady Eagles one to claim the 15-run win in four innings of play.
Jessica Lambert took the loss on the mound for the Eagles. Brandi Kennedy earned the win on the mound for the Tigers.
With the win, the Tigers went to 8-8 on the season as the Lady Eagles dropped to 4-10 on the year.
In the first inning of play, two hit batters by the Eagles put runners on base for the Tigers. Leslie Nalty sacrificed a run in for the Tigers as they took an early 1-0 lead.
After a Lady Tiger walk, Renae Boatwright replaced Lambert on the mound for the Eagles. The Tigers collected two more hits in the innings on three Lady Eagle errors to take a 6-0 lead after one inning of play.
In the second inning, the Lady Eagles got on the board when Katie Lambert reached on a walk and then took second base on a passed ball.
Lambert would be thrown out at home on a fielder's choice by Katie Elliot plated the Lady Eagle run on a Tiger error after reaching on a walk.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Tigers loaded the bases with no outs and scored seven runs to claim a 13-1 lead. They added another run in the inning to take a 14-1 lead.
W.S. Neal cut the lead to 15-2 in the top of the fourth when a Lauren Langford single scored Katie Lambert who picked up the third Eagle hit in the game. Morgan Cooper had the other hit in the game with a single in the second inning.
The Lady Tigers later placed two runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 17-2 lead and end the game by the 15-run mercy rule.
Langford, Cooper and Lambert all were 1-for-2 in the game for the Eagles with Langford having one RBI.
Janel McCorvey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Tigers in the win. Taylor Guthrie was 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park homerun. Keyetta Jones was 1-for-2 with an inside-the-park homerun as well.
Natalie Neal was 1-for-2 with an RBI as Nalty was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Leigh Margaret Bostic was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Leah Brundidge was 2-for-4.
Kennedy allowed one run (not earned) on one hit and two strikeouts and two walks. Miranda Anderson relieved Kennedy and allowed one run on two hits and struck out one.
TRM 3, EC 2
After falling behind 1-0, the Lady Tigers scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1. The team added a run in the top of the seventh to claim a 3-2 win after Atmore scored one in the bottom of the sixth.
Leslie Nalty was 3-for-4 with a double. Joy McCorvey was 2-for-3 with a double. Natalie Neal and Rachel Bostic were 1-for-4 with Taylor Guthrie at 1-for-3 in the win.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Tuesday at home against Monroe County at 4:30 p.m. They will play again next Tuesday at Monroe County at 4:30 before taking on Excel Thursday in Excel at 4:30 p.m.
