TRM claims runner-up

The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team finished in second place in the class 4A area two sectionals to Andalusia on Friday as the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles went two and out to end their season.
W.S. Neal lost to T.R. Miller in game one 16-1 and then dropped a 14-4 game to Hillcrest to fall to 4-14 to end their season.
T.R. Miller went on to lose to Andalusia in the winner's game 12-0 and then defeated Hillcrest 22-7 after the Jaguars defeated W.S. Neal.
Needing to beat Andalusia twice to claim the area, T.R. Miller fell 5-2 to the Lady Bulldogs to fall to 13-15 on the season.
With the second place finish, T.R. Miller traveled to Alabama Christian on Tuesday for a 1 and 3 p.m. game.
Andalusia hosted Trinity in the sub state round.
For the Lady Tigers in game one against W.S. Neal, Natalie Neal led offensively with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with a double and a triple. Leslie Nalty was 2-for-4 for the Tigers.
Rachel Bostic took the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers. Bostic went the complete game five innings and allowed four hits and three walks while striking out four.
Katie Lowery was 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Eagles.
The lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Janel McCorvey led the inning off with a walk and Leslie Nalty and Neal both added a hit for the Tigers to score the runs.
T.R. Miller then added five runs in the second inning and seven in the third inning to grab a 14-0 lead as the Lady Eagles added one in the third inning also.
The Lady Tigers then added one in the fourth inning to take a 15-1 lead and grab the win in five innings.
In the game one loss to Andalusia, the Lady Tigers fell 12-0.
The Lady Tigers only managed one hit in the game as Janel McCorvey had the only hit in the top of the first inning. Andalusia scored one run in the first inning, three in the third inning, and five in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning. Leslie Nalty took the loss on the mound as she went seven innings and allowed nine hits and four walks while striking out none. The Lady Tigers committed seven errors in the game.
In the 22-7 win over Hillcrest, McCorvey led the Lady Tigers with a 3-for-4 showing and a homerun.
Brandi Kennedy, Keyetta Jones, Bostic, Leah Brundidge and Emily Waters all were 1-for-4 in the win.
Miranda Anderson and Rachel Bostic combined on the mound for the Lady Tigers in the win. The duo combined for six strikeouts, six hits, and three walks.
Needing two wins to claim the area over Andalusia, the Lady Tigers fell 5-2 and took second in the area.
Taylor Guthrie led the Lady Tigers offensively as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bostic took the loss as she went seven innings and allowed seven hits and one walk and struck out four.
