Mr. Dewey Payne, 75, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Atmore. He was a native of Nokomis and a resident of Atmore for most of his life. He was retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections after 30 years, and attended the Atmore Church of the Living God.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Clara Payne of Atmore; two sons, Dorsey (Peggy) Payne of Abbeville and Doug (June) Payne of East Brewton; three daughters, Ann (Glenn) Bailey of Flomaton, Carol (Earl) Johnson of Perdido, and Tammy Merchant of Atmore; ten grandchildren, six nieces and seven nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Chad Payne, Michael Bailey, “Bo” Mitchell Boyette, Richard Hughes, Vern Peacock and Brandon Baggett.
