Brewton Police and other emergency responders were called to South Boulevard Monday afternoon to work an accident that kept traffic in the area snarled for nearly two hours. The accident, reported just before 3 p.m., involved five vehicles and injured four people. Two of the crash victims were listed in serious or critical condition, while others injured were either treated and released at D.W. McMillan Hospital or treated by paramedics on the scene.
Alice Adams of Brewton was driving north on South Boulevard in a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker when she drifted into the south bound lane, Brewton Police Sgt. Eric Suarez said.
Suarez said Adams' spinning car then came in contact with a 2004 Oldsmobile van driven by Sheri Davenport who was traveling north when the accident occurred.
A fourth vehicle driven by Melinda Flaxmon of Flomaton was also struck in the incident. Flaxmon's 2007 Honda CRV was struck by the vehicle driven by Adams.
The fifth vehicle damaged in the crash was being driven south by Ryan Howard.
Adams and Deslonde were cut from their vehicles by members of the Brewton Fire Department and other emergency personnel using the Jaws of Life.
Suarez said drivers involved in the incident were using proper safety devices that may have limited their injuries.
Other emergency assistance agencies responding to the accident were the Escambia County Rescue Squad and the Brewton Fire Department. Volunteer firefighters were also summoned to aid in the emergency.
