In a race for the seat of County Commission District 2, a political newcomer defeated incumbent Todd Williamson in Tuesday's primary.
Raymond Wiggins, nephew of the late Devon Wiggins, defeated Williamson by 275 votes to take the democratic nomination for the County Commission District 2 seat.
Williamson, who had served District 2 on the County Commission for eight years, said he has had a good run in the position.
Williamson praised his family for support during his time in the position and thanked them for their dedication.
Wiggins said he would always remember words spoken by Devon Wiggins concerning the political arena.
Wiggins will face independent candidate Norman Miller in the November general election.
In the race for Escambia County School Board's District 1 seat, incumbent Mike Goolsby met challenger Byron Palmer in the Tuesday primary.
Goolsby defeated Palmer by 117 votes to earn the democratic nomination for the seat.
Goolsby said he is ready to face his challenger in the November general election.
Palmer could not be reached for comment following the primary results Tuesday night.
Goolsby will face republican candidate Lawton Shipp in the November general election.
In other races in the county, Escambia County Commission District 4 found incumbent William H. Brown being defeated by newcomer, Brandon Smith for the democratic nomination for the seat.
At the end of the vote count, Kevin O'Neil McKinley defeated James (Junior) Hall to secure the republican nomination for the seat.
Smith will face McKinley in the November general election.
