One East Brewton resident has the blessing of the town's mayor and council to begin a clean up and restoration park at old Fort Crawford Park. Nearly 300 other residents in the community have expressed their desire to see the work completed.
Tara Baggett addressed the East Brewton governmental body Monday voicing her desire to see a change at the historic park.
Baggett presented petitions to the council that had been circulated in the East Brewton area.
The petitions, which had been placed in East Brewton businesses, bore the names of approximately 300 people who would like to see the park restored.
East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said the council would support Baggett in her efforts to revitalize the park, but said the city would be limited in the amount of manpower assistance they could give.
Steven Dunaway, director for the city's street and sanitation department, said his crews would assist Baggett in her efforts by picking up rubbish to be removed from the park grounds.
Baggett said she has a desire to see the bandstand replaced at the park with a picnic pavilion being restored on the grounds.
Clark said the city would help to maintain any progress made by Baggett and other volunteers on the project.
Baggett told the council she had already spoken with some businesses and may be able to secure some of the materials needed to make the project a reality.
Clark told Baggett that wouldn't be a problem.
Baggett, along with Jeff Orzel, have begun seeking volunteers to assist them in the restoration project.
