9- and 10-year-olds fall to Covington

The Brewton 9- and 10-year-old Little League All Star team lost its bid for the state tournament Saturday, losing 9-6 to Covington County in the double-elimination tournament.
The Brewton team opened the tournament with a 13-1 win over Escambia Gold last Saturday and then defeated Andalusia on Monday 11-5.
With the win, Brewton advanced into the winners bracket game against Opp, where they fell 12-1. The loss sent Brewton into the loser's bracket Saturday after games were rained out on Thursday.
Brewton 11, Andalusia 5
After 10-run ruling Escambia County Gold in their opening game of the 9-and-10-year-old tournament in East Brewton, the Brewton All Stars picked up their second win in the tournament with an 11-5 win over Andalusia in the winners bracket Monday night.
In the game, Brewton took an early 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning when Brooks Brown and Jake Najor started the game with back-to-back doubles.
Two Andalusia errors and a couple of walks and hit batsmen gave Brewton an early 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning of play.
In the bottom of the first inning, Andalusia cut the lead 4-2 and then 4-3 after Brewton failed to score in the second inning.
In the top of the third inning, Brewton claimed a 6-3 lead after Trippe Floyd doubled and Jordan Williams singled in the inning.
Andalusia cut the Brewton lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the inning.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but Brewton added three runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-4 lead. After taking a five run lead in the inning, Andalusia cut the lead once again to 9-5 but Brewton added two runs in the top of the sixth courtesy of another double by Floyd as Brewton took the win by a score of 11-5.
Ethan Tyree took the win on the mound for Brewton.
Offensively for the Brewton All Stars, Jake Najor and Trippe Floyd were both 2-for-4. Floyd had two doubles in the win and Najor had two singles.
Tyree was 1-for-3 on the day and Jordan Williams was 1-for-1. Brooks Brown went 1-for-5 with a single and a walk.
Opp 12, Brewton 1
After defeating Andalusia 11-5, Brewton faced Opp Wednesday night in the winners bracket and fell 12-1.
Opp scored 10 runs over the first two innings and added two late runs in the game to beat Brewton in four innings and send Brewton to their first loss in the tournament and into the losers bracket.
The Brewton All Stars committed four errors in the game and only had four hits in the game to Opp's nine hits and seven walks.
Brewton's lone run in the game came in the top of the second inning when Jordan Williams singled in Trippe Floyd who reached on the lone Opp error.
Hunter Brittain took the loss for the Brewton All Stars.
Offensively for Brewton, Floyd went 1-for-2 with a double and Jake Najor was 1-for-2 with a single. Jordan Williams was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Lane Clark was 1-for-1 with a single in the fourth inning.
