The Brewton Standard won second place among small weekly newspapers in Alabama at the 137th convention of the Alabama Press Association last week.
The Standard was one of 71 newspapers that submitted 2,856 entries for the annual Better Newspapers Contest. In addition to second place in general excellence, The Standard won 17 awards, including eight first-place awards.
The Standard won third place in public service for its coverage of last year's vote on a property tax renewal for city and county schools.
