Mr. Thomas J. “Tom” Eiland, 73, of Keego Road, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at a local hospital. He was a native and former resident of Coffee County and had moved to Brewton 49 years ago. He was a retired draw twist operator with Monsanto Corporation and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Catawba Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sarah Chavers Eiland of Brewton; four sons, Keith Smith of Brewton, Thomas G. (Kim) Eiland of Jay, Fla., David (Deanna) Eiland of Dallas, Texas, and Jerry Eiland of Flomaton; a sister, Lucille Thornton of Greenville; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Brittany, Jessica, David and Zack; and one great-grandson, Tyler.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Edwards and the Rev. Bert Bounds officiating. Burial followed at Catawba Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were D.J. Eiland, Marcus Buchanan, Jason Blaney, Jason Chavers, Sam Mitchem, and Will Chavers. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday school class.
