For the last two columns, I have been writing about the last Brewton Little League team to win a state tournament game.
With the most recent win by the Brewton Little League 10- and 11-year-old team, it was believed that team was the first to win a game at state. Later, it was found out that the 1976 Brewton Little League team was the first team from Brewton to win a state tournament game.
Last week, I mentioned an e-mail I received and I found a picture of the team from our 1976 archives.
Before I go any further into the column, I want to say thanks to the e-mails that I have got about this.
On Monday I received an e-mail about the team and their district tournament game from Frank and Kitty Luttrell of Brewton. The Luttrell's son Steve was on the team.
The e-mail said that the game was in the last half of the last inning and the Brewton team was in the field.  The Luttrell's son, Steve was playing first base.  The score could not be remembered but Brewton was ahead. Monroeville had a man on first and a man on third with no outs.  Monroeville hit a line drive fly ball, which Steve caught, making the first out. He then tagged his base to put the second Monroeville man out and then threw the ball to third base catching the runner off base for the third out. This last play of the game produced three outs and ended the game making the Brewton team District 5 champs.
A triple play to end the game must have been awesome. Triple plays are a rarity and to have one that ended a game and win the district must have been a great feeling.
To close the e-mail, a picture of the game ball that Steve had was attached in the e-mail with all the players' signatures on it.
I thought this would be nice to add since we had previously talked about this in the column.

Talking about other sports news of importance, former University of Alabama football coach Gene Stallings' son John Mark Stallings has passed away at the age of 46 years old. Stallings suffered from Down syndrome, but was a huge Alabama fan.
Also, longtime Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Caray passed away in his sleep on Sunday.
Skip, the son of legendary Cubs announced Harry and father to Chip was 68 years old.
On a different note as you all know, school started back today and volleyball and football practice has began along with band practices.
There are 15 days to our first football game of the season with W.S. Neal playing against Atmore in East Brewton for a pre-season game.
A week from Thursday will be our first football game of the season with W.S. Neal opening at home against Monroe County.
The next day, T.R. Miller will travel to Atmore to take on the Blue Devils for their first game of the season.
On Aug. 25, T.R. Miller volleyball will open their volleyball season against Choctaw County.
As of press time on Wenesday, I had not received a 2008 W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball schedule.
I want to wish all these teams the best of luck in their upcoming seasons and as they begin practice for their seasons.
Oh yeah, before I forget, the 2008 Summer Olympic games start on Friday from Beijing, China.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 8 p.m. CST for our area.
