Children who find themselves patients at D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton will have a ‘bear hug' to help comfort them in a scary situation, thanks to the work of members of the Youth Leadership Class III.
Judy Crane, executive director of the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, said the students efforts will be appreciated by children and parents alike.
Crane said the project included raising funds and purchasing teddy bears to be distributed at the local hospital facility.
Crane said class members raised money through raffles and soliciting donations from various groups and individuals.
Members of the Youth Leadership Class III included Lamesha Daniels, Jill Jordan, DeeDee Dees, Mabry Cook, Morgan Hubbard, Matt Lane, Joseph Billy, Talia Joyner, Myria Brazile, Jacob Cannon, Caitlin Cooper and Clay Wiggins.
Class members completed the program recently, Crane said. A new Youth Leadership class will be chosen during the coming weeks. Each class selects a project that enhances the community, services or facilities. Students selected for the program include those from T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal high schools.
