The Brewton City Board of Education will make a proposal today to buy more than 100 acre of city-owned property on U.S. 31 North.
Superintendent Lynn Smith said he would deliver a letter this afternoon to Mayor Ted Jennings, formally proposing that the school board buy property near the city water tower at U.S. 31 and Old Castleberry Road for $550,000.
"It's been a long time in coming for us," Smith said. "We felt this is what was best for the schools and the City of Brewton."
After a brief executive session, the board voted unanimously to propose buying the land.
