While last week's 49-0 home win over Central-Hayneville was pretty much won in the first quarter for the Tigers, this week's non-region game against Clarke County proves to be a much bigger task for the No. 4 Tigers from Brewton.
Clarke County comes into the game against the Tigers with a 1-3 overall record and a 1-2 region record. After falling to Leroy 36-9 in week one, the Bulldogs claimed a 49-12 victory over W.S. Neal. After the win over W.S. Neal, Clarke County lost to Jackson 13-6 and to UMS-Wright last week 37-0.
In the win over W.S. Neal, Bulldog running back Tim Barnett rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns and had two receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Barnett had 303 yards of the total 416 total yards for the Bulldogs in the game.
While it is mainly about Barnett, Riggs said Clarke County can throw the ball.
T.R. Miller is 25-3 against Clarke County all time, but is 5-3 against them since 1998. Two of the three losses against Clarke County have been at Clarke County
Last year, the two teams squared off in Brewton in the first game of the season with Clarke County claiming a 36-7 win. All three non-region games (Clarke County, Atmore, W.S. Neal) last year, Miller lost.
This week begins a three-game road trip for the Tigers who will not return home until Oct. 17 for homecoming.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Grove Hill.
