It may have just gone down as another loss in the record book for the W.S. Neal Eagles last week against Thomasville, but some consider it the best game the Eagles played all season.
This week, the Eagles (1-3 overall, 0-3 in class 4A region 1) will look to move on and move into the win column when they take on class 3A region1 member Calhoun High School for homecoming.
Calhoun, who is 1-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in region, is coming off a 68-12 loss last week to Luverne. While Calhoun is struggling, this may just be what the Eagles of W.S. Neal need. W.S. Neal has scored 59 points this season while giving up 104 points.
Calhoun has scored 63 points this season while giving up 187. While those numbers may seem a little similar, W.S. Neal is 6-0 against Calhoun all time and has outscored Calhoun 272-20 in those six games for an average of 45-3. In the last two wins for W.S. Neal over Calhoun in 2006 and 2007, the Eagles have outscored Calhoun 52-0 and 49-0.
While the before-mentioned things worry Hathcock, another thing that he says worries him is that this is homecoming for the Eagles.
While it is homecoming, Hathcock said it is good to make an impression on the people in the stands who's chance at seeing the Eagles play may be just this one time.
While Hathcock says his team needs to work on the things they have not been doing well on, Calhoun has one player that sticks out to the Eagles.
While stopping Davison on Calhoun's offense, Hathcock said his team needs to do a better job on their own offense.
Game time between the Eagles and Calhoun is set for 7 p.m. at W.S. Neal Stadium in East Brewton.
