Mrs. Sarah Lucille Thornton, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at a Greenville nursing facility. She was a former resident of Brewton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Ophelia Eiland; her father, Esmer Eiland; a son, Michael Thomas Thornton; and a granddaughter, Stephanie King.
She is survived by her four sons, James Griffin (Anne) Thornton Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., John Allen Thornton and Sidney Craig Thornton, both of Brewton, and Glen David (Lynn) Thornton of Lapine, Ala.; a daughter, Sabra Allyson (Bruce Barnes) Thornton of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Green officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery in Elba with Hayes Funeral Home of Elba directing.
