Mrs. Ouida Jackson Teal, 65, of Newark, N.J. died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at her residence. She was a native of the Boykin community and a resident of Newark. She attended Boykin School, Southern Normal High School and was 1960 graduate of New Brunswick High School, New Brunswick, N.J. She continued her education at Essex County College and Seten Hall University in South Orange, N.J. She was a preschool teacher in the New Jersey Preschool Program and Project Child. She was always active in her community and she retired in 2004 from the New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford and Eula Mae Culliver Jackson.
She is survived by two daughters, Arrica Patricia (Kenneth) Braithwaite of Kansas City, Mo., and Chezvora LaDawn Teal of Newark; two grandsons, Gary Gabriel Curry and Jalil Taheeen Teal both of Newark; two granddaughters, Amber Ouida and Alyssa Braithwaite of Kansas City; two brothers, Henry James (Ora) Jackson of Brewton, and Larry (Loretta) Jackson of Bridgeport, Conn.; three sisters, Sarah Pearl Brooks, Gloria P. (Hubert) Marshall of Brewton, and Jacqueline (James) Davis of Plainsfield, N.J. two sisters-in-law, Delores Jackson of Bridgeport, and Betty Blount Jackson of Miami, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Claud Davis of Irvington, N.J.; a devoted cousin, Gloria A. Culliver (Leslie) Thomas of Piscataway, N.J.; an aunt, Mary Frances Culliver of Mobile, a longtime friend, Leslie M. Armstrong, Newark; a devoted neighbor, Johnnie Mae Judd and many other friends and family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Second Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Cartez Hall and the Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Burial followed at Second Bethlehem Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
