On Sept. 30 career technical students from all over Escambia County, along with their teachers, traveled to Montgomery for a day of rigorous leadership study at the 2008 Joint Leadership Development Conference.
These students participated in more than 20 different skill-building workshops and interactive activities. Some of these workshops were business networking, workforce needs, employment, Your Credit Score and banking and social networking.
The Joint Leadership Development Conference, which began nine years ago, is focused on preparing students for leadership opportunities. During this annual event, Alabama's eight different Career and Technical Education Student Organization teams, along with supervisors, advisors and state officers, joined to sponsor one united event, which concentrates on teaching students about the upcoming career opportunities, financial literacy and leadership development.
This year, more than 3,500 students attended this conference. Escambia County took 85 participants this year on chartered buses funded by the Finlay Foundation.
Career Technical Education Director Jane Henderson called the conference “rewarding” for students.
The Escambia-Brewton Career Technical School serves students from T.R. Miller High School, W.S. Neal High School and Flomaton High School and is located on Pea Ridge Road in Brewton.on on Nov. 8.
