Half of a tractor-trailer rig reported stolen last week by Canadian officials was discovered in East Brewton Thursday, East Brewton Police Chief B.C. Cooper said.
Cooper said as he began to investigate the tractor-less trailer, police received a call from Canadian police reporting the trailer and a tractor rig as stolen.
The truck and trailer, owned by Unique Freight Systems in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, was reported stolen by the company after a loss of contact with the driver of the vehicle.
Fredette identified the driver of the truck as Ryan Donald Spann. The missing truck is a 2000 Kenworth with red and gold striping on a white base.
Fredette explained Spann did contact the company after being silent for several days.
Fredette said Spann's wife, Julie Hardy, was last known to have lived on Eby Street in East Brewton.
Fredette said the driver made other excuses about his absence, including a story about an illness in the family.
Fredette said the freight on the truck was valued at over $200,000 and the tractor was worth approximately $70,000.
Fredette and Cooper confirmed the items in the trailer were bound for Canadian companies.
Fredette is asking the public to keep an eye out for the truck and the driver.
Cooper said his officers are continuing to investigate the incident and will continue to search for the tractor.
Spann has not been charged in any way in the incident.
