Rev. James D. Jackson, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. He was a member of the U.S. Army 3540 unit in Manila and Japan until his discharge in 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Minnie Jackson; his twin sister, Daisy, Paul, John D. and Minnie Mae, Virginia and Bill H. his wife of 51 years, Marjorie Faye Samuel.
He is survived by his brother, Henry Murray (Amanda) and his sister, Mary Sue; his children, Marcia (Willis), Donnie Ray, and Michael (Delilah); his grandchildren, Monica, Daniel, Vanisha, Kiana, Kamela, Michael and Demi; seven great-grandchilren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elder Aaron (Annie) Samuel, Edward (Ethel) Samuel, Arnold (Elizabeth) Samuel, Sally M. King, Bernice Snowden, Arithia Marshall, Roberta Floyd, Lillie (Rev. Hosea) Edwards, Gladys (Elder Willie) Williams and E. Sue (Willie) Vines; one god-child, Gwendolyn Thornton Sims and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at Second Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cortez Hall officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
