NDI's downtown shops are decorated for Christmas, and Joan Archer said shoppers have been busy picking ornaments off the trees for purchase.
But Archer has noticed something interesting this year.
Local merchants agreed the holiday shopping season is off to a good start in Brewton.
Candi Smith, who owns Shades of Gray boutique in downtown Brewton, is optimistic about this year.
Jus Do employee Larae Boyd said business at the gift store has also been good.
One of the largest retailers in the Brewton area is Walmart Supercenter. Store manager Bill Willis said he has been pleasantly surprised so far with the shopping season.
Karen Saloom of The Treasure Chest said the Christmas shopping season at that shop actually begins at the end of October when many items are discounted.
Walgreen's is experiencing its first Christmas in Brewton since it opened earlier this year.
Manager Julie Elam said she has been pleasantly surprised so far.
