Thirty-five small-breed dogs were rescued from a home in Pollard Monday after the Humane Society of Escambia County received a complaint about the conditions in which they were living.
The dogs were held in large woodsheds in the back of property owned by Mary Turk, Jones said.
Jones said Turk has been a breeder of yorkies, pomeranians, poodles, maltese, pugs and shihtzus.
Jones told WPMI News Channel 15 in Mobile that she believes Turk is a “hoarder” of animals who loves the dogs and did not necessarily mean to cause them harm.
Jones said she will try not to press charges against Turk and will try to have a judge order that Turk not be allowed to keep any more pets.
The 35 dogs are being held at The Humane Society of Escambia County in Brewton and are being treated for various medical problems until a disposition hearing can be held.
The Humane Society will be asking the court to award them custody of the dogs.
