Daisy May Sowell

Mrs. Daisy May Sowell, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. She was a native of St. Stephens and a resident of Brewton for more than 60 years. She was a graduate of Leroy High School and attended Montevallo College for Women. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, worked for many years at May Candy an Grocery Company, and was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Jefferson Davis Community College. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Phillip T. May; and her daughter, Katherine Turner May Ventulett.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Sowell Jr.; her granddaughter, Katherine Ventulett (Michael) Hernacki of Atlanta, Ga.; a great-grandson, John Baxter Hernacki of Atlanta; and a brother, Henry Turner of Pensacola, Fla.
A private funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, with Craver's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Donations in her memory can be made to First United Methodist Church or Covenant Hospice.
