The Alabama 4-H Environmental Science Education Center designed by Davis Architects has been awarded Gold-level certification as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or LEED) project by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Students from Brewton and the surrounding area have enjoyed previous retreats at the center through a program made possible by Southern Pine Electric Cooeprative. The new facility will continue to provide advanced learning opportunities for students chosen to participate in the locally-sponsored event.
The $5 million Center, situated on Lay Lake near Columbiana, is the first 4-H facility in the United States to attain Gold certification.
The grand opening celebration was held recently at the innovative Center that sets new standards for energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Davis served as the lead architect and principle designer of the Center while architect Don Cosper served as project manager.
