Bonnie Fitts has been making trips out of town to treat her multiple sclerosis for many months.
Now, through the efforts of her physician and D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, she is able to receive an advanced treatment for the disease right here in Brewton.
D.W. McMillan can offer the drug Tysabri, which is used to treat MS.
Fitts has been proactive about trying to get the treatment locally.
Judy Palmer, who works in out-patient care at the hospital, said that the nurses at DWM had to learn about how to give the treatments.
It takes one hour to give to the patient and they are kept another hour to make sure that there is no bad reaction.
The good news is that it takes only one treatment a month.”
Fitts is happy to say that her condition is being maintained.
