The date for a special election to replace late state Sen. Pat Lindsey has not yet been set, but Brewton resident Danny Joyner has announced his plans to seek the seat.
Lindsey, a Butler resident who represented District 22 - including Escambia County - died suddenly Jan. 11, just weeks before the new legislative session begins.
Joyner, who is a Republican candidate, is not new to the campaign trail. In fact, he ran against Pat Lindsey in 1998. He said he has already activated the assets that he had in 1998.
Joyner said he wanted to get his hat in the ring quickly for the seat.
Representatives with Gov. Bob Riley's legal department said he has not made a decision when the special election will be held.
Riley spokesman Todd Stacey said the timeframe on the election has to be worked out with the U.S. Justice Department.
District 22 is comprised of two whole counties, Escambia and Washington, and parts of Choctaw, Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke and Mobile.
