UMS girls get big win over WSN, 60-17

The UMS-Wright Lady Bulldogs opened the game with a 21-0 run over the first and second quarters to hold a 16-0 lead after the first quarter enroute to a 60-17 area win over the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles Friday night in East Brewton.
UMS added other runs of 8-0, 12-0, and 15-0 in the game before W.S. Neal closed the game on a 5-0 run of their own.
The Lady Eagles dropped to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the area with the 43-point loss.
UMS outscored the Lady Eagles 15-7 in the second quarter after the 16-0 first quarter and held W.S. Neal without a basket until the 5:22 mark of the second quarter when Katie Elliot put the Lady Eagles on the board to hold a 31-7 lead at the half and added 16 points in the third quarter, while holding the Lady Eagles to just three points, UMS took a 47-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter. W.S. Neal was outscored 13-7.
There was not much offense for the Lady Eagles in the game as Keyvonnia Kyles led W.S. Neal with 10 points and Katie Elliott followed with seven points in the loss and was the only two scorers for the Lady Eagles in the game.
In the game Friday night, UMS-Wright scored the first 21 points of the game before Elliot got W.S. Neal on the board to cut the lead to 21-2.
From there, UMS went on an 8-0 run to claim a 29-2 lead before Elliott cut the lead to 29-4 with 2:58 left to play in the half.
UMS took a 31-4 lead with 2:18 left to play, but Kyles connected for a 3-pointer for the Lady Eagles to cut the lead to 31-7 as W.S. Neal trailed by 24 points at the half.
In the second half, UMS went on a 12-0 run to take a 43-7 lead with 4:02 left to play in the quarter before Elliot gave W.S. Neal their only points in the quarter wit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 43-10.
UMS ended the quarter with four straight points to lead 47-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs used a 15-0 run in the quarter and made it a 19-0 run from the four points to end the third quarter to claim a 58-10 lead with two minutes to play in the game.
Kyles then ended the run with a steal for the Lady Eagles to cut the lead to 58-12.
After the Kyles steal, UMS added their final basket of the game to hold a 60-12 lead with 1:32 left to play.
W.S. Neal then ended the game with a 5-0 run getting a 3-pointer and another steal to cut the lead to 60-17, but the early lead for UMS-Wright was to much to overcome as the Lady Eagles dropped to 9-8 overall.
W.S. Neal was set to be back in action on Tuesday when they traveled to Jackson for another area game. W.S. Neal will travel to Mobile on Friday to take on B.C. Rain in an area contest and will continue their road trip against McKenzie on Monday, Jan. 26 and at J.U. Blacksher in Uriah on Jan. 27.
The Eagles will be back at home for their final two games of the year as they take on Flomaton on Friday, Jan. 30 and will end their season against Frisco City on Monday, Feb. 2.
