TRM Lady Tigers finish perfect in area at 6-0

An 18-0 first quarter lead for the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers paved the way for a 55-20 area win over Choctaw County High School Saturday in Brewton.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 16-2 and 6-0 in the area standings and clinched the host spot for the girl's area tournament.
With an 18-0 lead after the first quarter of play, the Lady Tigers outscored Choctaw County 12-6 in the second quarter to hold a 30-6 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers improved their lead to 46-16 with a 16-10 advantage in the quarter and closed the game with a 9-4 advantage in the fourth quarter to claim the 35-point win.
Kesha Peterson led the Lady Tigers with 15 points and Zykeya Barton followed with 10 points.
MyNetra Boley chipped in eight points in the win followed by four each from Keydra Shedrone and Nakiya Smith.
Janel McCorvey added four points and Courtney Jones had three points. Leah Brundidge added one points.
Both McCorvey and Peterson both had eight rebounds, and Shedrone had nine to lead the Lady Tigers.
Smith had five steals and Catherine Green had seven assists.
The Lady Tigers traveled to Atmore on Tuesday and will be back at home on Friday against Monroe County.
Choctaw County 68, T.R. Miller Varsity 47
Needing only just one more area win to clinch the area tournament, the T.R. Miller Tigers dropped a 68-47 loss to Choctaw County Saturday in Brewton.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-13 overall and finished them at 3-3 in the area standings.
Choctaw County jumped out to an early 11-point lead in the first half by outscoring the Tigers 22-11 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Choctaw County held a six-point advantage as they outscored T.R. Miller 14-8 to hold a 36-19 lead at the half.
A 19-10 advantage in the third quarter extended Choctaw County's lead over the Tigers to 55-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to cut the lead by five with an 18-13 advantage, but fell by 21 points.
Corey Redfearn led the Tigers with 17 points and was joined by Justin Payne with 14. Keenan Pride added seven points in the loss along with Derrick Riley's seven points. 
The Tigers were set to take on Atmore on the road on Tuesday, but will take on Monroe County on Friday at home.
The Tigers will end the regular season on Monday when they travel to Flomaton to take on the Hurricanes.
