U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, said Tuesday he will not run for governor in 2010.
Bonner said he believes he can best benefit Alabama by staying in Congress - he will run for re-election to the House in 2010 - and he said he did not want the burden of a statewide campaign on his family.
Bonner will be traveling today with other House members to focus on national security issues overseas.
Riley will not be eligible to run again in 2010. Republican Tim James has announced plans to run, while other rumored Republican candidates include Bradley Byrne, chancellor of the state's two-year college system, and state Treasurer Kay Ivey. Rumored Democratic candidates include U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom and Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks.
