A group of current and former Brewton residents witnessed history last month.
They were among the thousands who flooded into Washington D.C. to see Barack Obama sworn in as president of the United States.
Hendrieth and his wife, Cassandra, now live in Augusta, Ga. Cassandra Hendrieth's sisters, Hermine Hall and Sharon Collins, left their homes in Brewton and joined the Hendrieths in Augusta to continue the trip to Washington on Jan. 19.
There they met another former Brewton resident, Dereck Dawson, who had traveled from Monticello, N.Y.
Once in Washington, another former Brewton resident helped them navigate the crowds and barricades - D.C. police officer Alex Glover.
For the family, enduring cold temperatures and making it through large crowds was worth it to see the first black president sworn into office.
Twelve-year-old Amber was excited about witnessing history - but she also didn't mind the seeing a little celebrity, too.
