Flomaton
Mrs. Voncile White Bethea, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton. She was involved with many community activities. Through her encouragment, Turtle Point Science Center was achieved. She served on the Flomaton Library Board and as president of the Pioneer Garden Club and was named Flomaton Citizen of the Year in 1998. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and worked as a bookkeeper for 33 years for the family business, Flomaton Gravel Company, with her husband of 48 years, Alton Ray Bethea.
She is survived by her daughters, Una Ray (John) Barnett of Birmingham, and Brenda (Karl) Stegall of Montgomery; a brother, Sammy White of Flomaton; two sisters, Lola Weaver of Flomaton, and Margaret Stuckey of Century, Fla.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 8, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Glenn McCall and Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Scott Barnett, Tim Bullock, Kevin Haynes, Tony McCullough, L.B. Jones, Tom Allen, Mac Weaver, and Mitch White.
