Brewton is losing something of a local celebrity as Mabry Cook heads for a new position in Alexander City.
The co-host of Channel 6's “Coffee with the Mayor and Mabry,” Cook said he is taking advantage of a new opportunity.
Cook has been employed at NDI Inc. since 1999 and will finish his time at the Brewton location Feb. 16.
Cook has also served as host for a locally produced television program on Brewton's Channel 6.
Brewton Mayor Ted Jennings said the show won't be the same without Cook.
Cook said serving as the show's host has allowed him opportunities he might not otherwise have enjoyed.
Cook said his stint on the program has given him the chance to see Brewton at its best.
Although Cook's appearance on television is one many residents will remember, his work behind the scenes throughout the city will not soon be forgotten.
Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Judy Crane said Cook's leadership while on the board of the chamber was valuable beyond measure.
Crane said the Alabama Blueberry Festival's move to downtown was a difficult task, but Cook jumped in to help.
Crane said Cook was also instrumental in beginning a program for youth through the chamber that has been beneficial to the community.
Cook came to Brewton by way of Evergreen as an employee at NDI. The move to Brewton was a natural decision, he said.
Cook will begin his new position at Russell Medical Center later this month. His family will join him in Alexander City following the graduation of his son at T.R. Miller High School.
