James “Barry” Ryland, Sr.|Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. James “Barry” Ryland, Sr., 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, after an extended illness.  He was a native of  Bermuda, and a resident of Pensacola. He was a 1959 graduate of Repton High School where he excelled in sports.  He retired with the U.S. Postal Service in 2001, after serving 42 years. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union — Branch 321 and served as President in 1994-1995 and again in 2000-2005.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry B. and Em. E. Butts Ryland; a  sister, Jackie Ryland Morgan; and a brother, Henry Braxton Ryland.  
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Ryland; two daughters, Lisa Gray, of Kitcener, Ontario, and Lynda (Johnny) Hill of Pensacola; a son, James B. Ryland, Jr., of Pensacola; four grandchildren, Jason Gray, Alana Gray, Ashton Hill and Hayley Hill; one great-grandchild, Matthew Julien Poulin; three sisters, Joyce Reid of Sierra Madre, Calif., Gwen Waters of Cantonment, Fla., and Gayle Frid of Pensacola; a brother-in-law, James Morgan of Pensacola; a sister-in-law, Helen Baggett Ryland of Vestavia Hills; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home in Pensacola, with Pastor Ken Cook officiating.  Interment followed in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
