Softball is a new sport for girls at W.S. Neal Middle School, and the playing field is literally getting better for the team.
The newly built field is nearing completion with only dugouts and bleachers remaining to be installed.
Hadaway said the project began to take shape after he had a conversation with PTO President Wendy Cooper.
The property, once a hayfield, is part of the campus at W.S. Neal Middle School in East Brewton. When the current middle school was constructed, top soil was moved from the site and dumped on the land that is now the practice and playing fields at the school, Hadaway said.
Hadaway said the new fields will give teams an opportunity to practice without having to settle for second best or leftovers.
Coach Joe Ellington is assisted by volunteer coach Chuck Danley during practices and games for the team. Ellington said the team has come a long way and is comprised of great young ladies.
Ellington said the work being done at the middle school level is work that will ultimately help the high school level teams.
The newly prepared fields could be used for actual game play pending installation of lights, dugouts and bleachers, Hadaway said.
Hadaway said the field construction was done in record time and in perfect order.
Hadaway is hoping to add landscaping to his wish list of things to finish at the field.
