Mrs. DeEther Salter Simpkins, 90, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009.  She was a native of Mexia, and a resident of Brewton. She was an active member of New Chapel Baptist Church and had been an insurance agent. She retired from the Monroe County Board of Education and she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Woodrow Simpkins; and her daughters, Lucy Nell (Albert) Lewis and Rosie Lee (Joel) Autrey.
She is survived by her children, Otis (Pat) Simpkins Jr., Relia Mae (Phillip) Lee and Bessie Ann (Trevor) Johnson; a sister, Vonzie Outlaw, 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at New Chapel Baptist Church in Mexia, with Pastor J. O. Malone officiating. Burial followed at Bergen Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
