Troy bound|Lady Tigers headed to South Regional at Troy

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers improved to 22-2 and won their 15th straight game Thursday night at home against Straughn in the class 3A basketball sub state playoffs with a 47-25 win.
T.R. Miller outscored Straughn 11-4 in the first quarter and 8-2 in the second quarter to claim a 19-6 lead at the half.
The Lady Tigers outscored Straughn 13-9 in the third quarter to hold a 32-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter and then held a 15-10 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to claim the 22-point win.
Kesha Peterson led the Lady Tigers with 13 points, and Ashley Williams followed with 10 points.
Zykeya Barton chipped in eight points for T.R. Miller and Nakiya Smith added six.
Keydra Shedrone and Shaniqua Kiser both had three points and Leah Brundidge and Desiree Gibbs had two each.
Straughn was led by Kaitlyn Wiggins with 10 points and Kayla Teel with four points. Rachel Driver also had four points for Straughn and Kimberly Teel added three points.
Kaly Messick and Tiffany Freeney both had two points in the loss.
The Lady Tigers will now travel to Troy University for the South regional next Thursday to take on Headland who defeated Geneva Thursday night.
Game time will be at 6 p.m.
T.R. Miller started the game on a 6-0 run and held an 11-2 lead with 2:08 left to play in the first quarter.
Straughn picked up its first points of the game with 2:46 left in the first quarter but held T.R. Miller scoreless in the final two minutes of the quarter while getting a late basket to cut the lead to 11-4 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Straughn defense held T.R. Miller scoreless for the first 4:34 of the quarter while getting two points to cut the lead to 11-6 just four seconds into the second quarter.
Those would be the only points of the quarter for Straughn as T.R. Miller went on an 8-0 run to hold a 19-6, 13-point lead at the half.
The Lady Tigers of Brewton extended their run to 12-0 to open the second half and extended their lead to 23-6 at the 7:34 mark.
Straughn ended the run at the 7:19 mark to cut the lead to 23-8, but the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller quickly took a 29-9 lead at the 4:21 and held a 32-15 lead at the end of the third quarter.
T.R. Miller then benefited from a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to claim a 40-17 and then a 7-0 run to hold a 47-19 lead with 1:51 left to play to put the game out of reach.
Straughn ended the game on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 22 points at 47-25, but it was not enough to oveercome the Lady Tigers of Brewton.
