East Brewton officials are taking steps to keep the city clean. One step being taken is to either clean up or tear down dilapidated housing in the area.
Officials are currently working on ridding the city of two houses in a bad state of disrepair. Council members opened a series of bids on Monday for the partial demolition of a home on Boyd Street.
Clark said one particular house will be destroyed in the near future after council members approved a bid for removal.
Councilmen approved the awarding of a bid to Wayne Lindsey for the moving of the structure.
The council is also working on a schedule to consider removal of a house on Dailey Street as well.
The original owner of the home was given 30 days to make improvements on the house or to sell it, Clark said.
This type of action by the council is not new or unusual, Clark said.
Clark said the empty homes pose safety risks and health hazards that could hurt the community.
Clark said the city would continue to monitor conditions throughout the city to make sure no other dangers lurk in the East Brewton.
